Discover the beautiful countries of the Caucasian region - Armenia and Georgia, visit the capitals, ancient monasteries and try Georgian wines.
The adventure starts in Yerevan, the capital of Georgia, by spending the first three nights there. Yerevan is the capital of Armenia and one of the oldest continuously inhibited cities in the world. We recommend you visiting the City centre, the Republic Square, the State University, Erebuni Fortress, or to attend the Cascade complex in the first free evening. The latter is a remarkable modern art centre of Yerevan, from the top of which you can enjoy the panoramic view of the city and the Mt Ararat. On the next morning head to Echmiadzin to visit to a famous cathedral and continue to Khor Virap - one of the holy places for the Christian world. It is the place of imprisonment of St. Gregory the Illuminator, who stayed here in the small dungeon for 13 years accused of preaching Christianity. Be charmed by the scenic location of the church with a panoramic view to the Mt Ararat. Next, hit the road to the only remaining pagan temple in Armenia devoted to the God of the Sun, located in Garni. The temple is a Greco-Roman style building with characteristic pillars and it stands proudly on a rocky ridge with a deep canyon presenting beautiful views. The temple was a summer residence of Arshakid dynasty. Visit the Garni Gorge, enjoy the home made lunch and watch how lavash bread is made. Spend a night in your Yerevan hotel. Then hit the road to the Lake Sevan that is one of the biggest high mountainous freshwater lakes in Eurasia, visiting several monasteries en route, including the monastic complex of Sanahin.
Cross into the boarder of Georgia and continue to Tbilisi. Visit to the Old Town, the Metekhi Temple, the Abanotubani 'bath district' and the Narikala - the main fortress in Tbilisi in a city tour. Enjoy a chance to take a cable car to view the city from above. Then drive the famous Georgian Military Road to Mtskheta, the ancient capital of Georgia. The Georgian Military Road is the historical name of the route through the Caucasian Mountains – form Georgia to Russia (220 km) and it is very pictorial. Visit the Jvari Monastery and Svetitskhoveli Cathedral in Mtskheta, continue to Uplistsikhe cave town and into the Caucasus Mountains to Gudauri. Cross the Greater Caucasus Range on the Jvari Pass and head down to Kazbegi - a picturesque village in the north of Georgia that offers active leisure possibilities. Walk up to the Sameba Church for gorgeous views of Mt Kazbek, and return to Tbilisi visiting Ananuri architectural complex en route. Head into the town of Sighnaghi - one of Georgia's trading centres with old houses that make the atmosphere charming in the final part of the tour. Enjoy the local lunch and wines, and visit to the Tsinandali Park before continuing on to Telavi for a night. Enjoy a morning visit to the Alaverdi Cathedral and Gremi architectural complex. Visit a winery with an included wine tasting in Kvareli, and continue back to Tbilisi for one more night in Georgia.
