Estravel Latvia is official distributor of Japan Rail passes in Latvia. 

Japan Rail Pass allows travelling the country by train and to have significant savings in comparison to purchase of separate railway tickets on the spot in Japan.

Japan Rail Pass offers two level rail passes:

  • Green – increased comfort level
  • Ordinary

Purchase conditions:

You can buy the voucher to the Rail Pass the earliest 3 months before the first day of use.
Get your Rail Pass in the Japan Rail office in Japan, by changing the voucher you have bought in Latvia (voucher is valid only for the person specified on it, so, please, prepare the passport).
Children under 6 years of age can travel free of charge (without a separate seat).
Discounts for children from 6 to 11 years of age.
When changing the voucher to the Rail Pass, please, specify the first day of use (any date within the period of the next 30 days).

Terms of use:

The validity term of the Japan Rail Pass is 7, 14, or 21 days after the first day of use.
Book the place in a train upon receipt of the Japan Rail Pass, or just before the trip in Japan Rail office.
Japan Rail Pass can be used in certain buses and on ferries (for more detailed information, please, consult the Estravel Latvia travel agent).

The new passenger train connection is provided by the Lithuanian, Latvian and Estonian carriers “LTG Link”, “Vivi’’ and “Elron”. Currently the full route is carried out by changing trains in Riga and in Valga.

The train ticket should be bought for each country separately at the providers’, however, planned upgrade to the system might change this order and improve it.

  • Tallinn – Tartu – Valga. At “Elron” (can be bought 14 days in advance), at ticket machines or in the train. The numbered seats with reservation can be bought for the 1st class coach.
  • Valga – Riga. At “Vivi” and through mobile application (can be bought 10 days in advance), at ticket offices and in the train. The seats are not numbered. 
  • Riga – Vilnius. At “LTG Link” (can be bought 30 days in advance), through mobile application or in the train. The seats in the train are numbered. The 1st class tickets are available. Light refreshments and snacks can be bought in the train.
  • Follow the possible schedule changes and improvements when purchasing the tickets. The work on uniform ticket type, as well as development of sale channels is in the process.

Discounts

Discounts for the children, youth, pensioners, and for the groups of 2-5 persons.
50% discount for children (form 4 to 11 years).
The Switzerland pass is free of charge for the children till the age of 16 if travelling together with the parents.

Conditions of purchase and use of the rail pass

The pass is not the guarantee of a seat in every train. Book a seat for an additional fee.
Booking of a place in the speed and night trains is obligatory.
The rail pass is provided for the tourists only and can be purchased not earlier than 3 months in advance.

VR-Finnish Railways

vr logoThe railway network serviced by VR Group connects Finnish cities and towns, and the commuter region of Helsinki, including an airport. The night train, when travelling in sleeping cabin, can take you to Lapland, moreover, offers the car-carrier service. VR is convenient to travel to Sankt-Petersburg and Moscow as well. The train Allegro goes from Helsinki to Sankt-Petersburg and since late 2014 clients can combine a Finnair international flight to Allegro train service with a Finnair ticket; moreover, the ticket allows a stopover in Helsinki. However, the train Lev Tolstoy by Russian Railways RZD can take you to Moscow.

Conditions for purchase and use of tickets

  • You can buy a ticket starting from 60 days as of the planned departure.
  • Discount to the student fares in the standard class and specific trains depending on seasonality set by VR (ask the information to the Estravel Latvia travel consultant).
  • Discount, when purchasing the family ticket at the latest in 3 days in advance. One child form the age of 6 to16 travels free of charge with an adult when there are at least three passengers in a group (ask the information to the Estravel Latvia travel consultant).
  • A child till the age of 6, without a seat booking, travels free of charge when accompanied with an adult.
  • Transportation of luggage on commuter trains and trains to Russia - free of charge. On long-distance trains - EUR 5 with max weight of 20 kg; and EUR 10 for heavier luggage.

Eurostar speed trains can reach 300km/h and provide regular passenger transportation services between the Great Britain, France and Belgium. The route London – Paris, for instance, is made up to 18 times a day, and from London to Brussels – up to 10 routes a day.

  • The person documents (ID card, passport and visa, if necessary) to detrain in the destination country.
  • Ticket discounts for the groups (from 10 people) – 15%.

TGV Lyria offers fast, comfortable and safe passenger travel services between the cities in France and Switzerland, and guarantees accuracy of time and frequency. From Paris to Geneva train goes up to 9 times a day, and to Zurich – up to 6 times a day, for instance.
